Patience is a virtue...

that I do not always possess.  I received a lovely gift of lace weight yarn that I am eager to knit up. Before I could start I needed to wind it into a ball and could not wait for my experienced swift (my manthing holds the hank while i wind) and had to settle for the 10 year old. Things were moving along smoothly until he had an itch on his nose or something and then the yarn was all tangled with a quarter left to wind. I wanted to cry, and suggested to j that he might want to buy me a swift for Christmas. Me and the manthing tried and tried to undo the tangle but failed and took a scissors to the nasty knot. Now I am even more ready to knit the shawl but cannot find a copy of the pattern I want to make. I am hoping that the designer will be kind enough to let us download it again as I do not want to pay for it again. Should I give up and choose another pattern?

little things

I am working on new dishrags for my kitchen. I love the BallBand pattern. Simple, functional and pretty. I also started making cloth produce bags. These bags have been on my to do list for over a year now, I am happy to say that they are fun to make. I am making them up as I go along to suit my needs. I practiced french seams and sewing button holes on the first bag. I can't wait until the farmer's market this weekend to try it out.

I am so grateful that my kids are old enough to play in the pool while I leisurely read on the side. I could join when I wanted but they did not need me. It was liberating!

Rhubarb Day

Yesterday, I found a pile of rhubarb in the kitchen. A note near it said "weigh it?", what a good idea!(my goal is to grow two thousand pounds of veggies this summer!)  Manthing had harvested 6 pounds of rhubarb and plenty more is still growing. I contemplated making freezer jam with it but was turned off by jello being on the ingredient list. I decided to make muffins, they were a hit and I missed the chance to take a photo. I also made this:

Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble. Yum!

monday is wash day...

Monday's to do list:

-laundry- i am behind on this task, rainy last week

-bake bread- currently in the oven and smells delicious

-finish- Angie's present and slippers- i will just continue to carry this over until i finish

-bake muffins- made lovely strawberry rhubarb 

-iron manthing's shirts- trying to love this job

water wednesday

Today started rather dreary so we headed to the museum.

Closing time came with the sun, so we headed outside to the fountains.

Unfortunately for the wet kid it was not very warm and we did not have dry clothes. Luckily, our knight in shining armor saved the day by delivering a blanket.
